June Recap

Updated: Jul 19, 2022

everything i read in june + reviews + ratings!!

A Deadly Education & The Last Graduate by Naomi Novik:

started the month off not too strong with two three star reads. The Scholomance series has a lot of promise: a cool premise, great character development, enemies to lovers, but it just didn't do it for me. I was overwhelmingly confused pretty much the entire time I was reading, and to call this a slow burn would be an understatement. The best thing about these books is El and Orion and they didn't do anything non platonic until the end of book two. The writing was a little too "rambly" to me, but the story was very cool and obviously I loved El -- we know I love a strong female mc. Overall; not great but not bad.

Addicted to You, Ricochet, and Addicted for Now by Krista & Becca Ritchie:

My next three reads were the first three books of the Addicted series. FIVE STARS!!! FOR ALL OF THEM!!!! I'm so enamored by Lily and Lo's story, they have weaseled their way into my heart and taken up a ridiculous amount of space. These novels don't shy away from the reality of relationships: not everything is all sunshines and rainbows and puppies, sometimes there has to be hurt and that's okay. I've never read a book with a purer more all-consuming love than the love these two share and I will never get sick of reading about them.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Trilogy by Jenny Han:

I had to take a hiatus from the Addicted series to read these books before the series came out (and i successfully read them all in two days but thats besides the point). These are the perfect summer read and I truly enjoyed them a lot. The setting was so beautifully explained I really felt like I was there at Cousin's beach with all of the characters. Team Conrad forever.... he's just misunderstood you don't get him like I do!

Kiss the Sky by Krista & Becca Ritchie:

Next I read Kiss the Sky, the first in the Calloway Sister's series, entirely focused on Rose and Connor. Again, 5 stars as always. Rose is probably the most relatable female character I've ever read about and I was so excited to delve further into her mind and I was not disappointed in the slightest. She's unstoppably fierce and yet delicate and so lovable and I just want to be her pretty much. Her and Connor are so perfect for each other it's hard to even comprehend they just fit each

other like two puzzle pieces: soulmates if you will. I love that their relationship isn't easily understood by the others, its private and confusing and all the more sacred that way.

Hothouse Flower by Krista & Becca Ritchie:

Next in the Calloway Sisters series comes Daisy and Ryke's book: Hothouse Flower. I doubt I have to tell you what I rated this one. In the beginning, I was hesitant about Daisy and Ryke because of the age difference, but when you see how deeply he cares for her and all that he did just to keep her safe, all the reluctancy flies out the window and you get so immersed in their crazy love story. They balance each other out so flawlessly: Instead of "no don't jump off that cliff" it's "wait for me" and I love it.

Thrive by Krista & Becca Ritchie:

Back to the Addicted series!! And another 5 stars!!! shocking!!!! This was crushed me to say the least. Seeing Loren Hale break down is simply another level of pain that I never want to reach again, but seeing him get back up again makes up for it. The Core 6 have really formed a true found family and In Thrive we really see them come together for Lo and it's beautiful. I have such a deep love for all of these characters and I'm anxiously awaiting the rest of the books in the mail.
